Nana Mouskouri - ‘Quatre Soleils’
August 28th, 2006
Okay, I’m lazy this week because of some business meetings I need to attend, so I’m posting some tracks from Nana Mouskouri again. I just can’t get enough of this voice.
I bought this in the dollar vinyl bin at Amoeba Music. Its made for the French-Canadian market as the LP’s made in Canada and every song is in French. There’s something kitschy yet exotic about hearing a Greek bouzouki backing up a French voice in the track ‘Quatre Soleils.’
Nana’s version of ‘The Umbrellas of Cherbourg’ rival’s Catherine Deneuve’s starlet pipes while ‘The Girl Frolm Ipanema’ is right on-par with Astrud Gilberto’s echo-y samba.
I’ll post some videos this week since I’ll be busy, but the content will keep on coming.

Quatre soleils was my father’s favourite song ever. He had a copy of this album and it played often on our record player — circa the late sixties, I think…

I’m so glad I found this album. Ever since I started playing it, my wife and I always quote Nana when it comes to our favorite timeless singers. Even though we’re in our early thirties, we really want to see her when she comes to the US on her farewell tour. Thanks for the comment!

Hey, thanks… I’ve been looking for this version of this song with that verse!
I’ve heard it from another singer and I wanted to hear an “original” version. You should look up Kaori Iida’s version of “Les Parapluies De Cherbourg”
